302 Redirect

A 302 redirect is a HTTP status code that indicates a temporary redirection of a webpage from one URL to another. When a user or search engine attempts to access the original URL, they are automatically directed to the new location specified in the 302 response header. This type of redirect is commonly used when content is temporarily moved, such as during website maintenance or updates.

Using a 302 redirect signals to search engines that the original page should remain indexed and retain its ranking authority because it will return in its previous form once the temporary condition has ended. Unlike a 301 redirect, which is a permanent relocation that transfers link equity from the old URL to the new one, a 302 redirect does not pass on any value permanently. 302’s should be used with care.
