Click Depth

Click depth is the number of clicks a user must make from the homepage of a website to reach a specific page within that site. It is an important concept as it influences both user experience and how search engines crawl and index web pages. Pages that are closer to the homepage (the ones with a lower click depth) tend to receive more traffic and visibility, as they are easier for users and search engine bots to access.

An example of this is if a webpage requires three clicks from the homepage to be reached, its click depth is considered three. Alternatively, if the page can be accessed directly from the homepage or through one click, its click depth would be one.

A lower click depth is often associated with better SEO performance because it allows quicker access to content. Search engines like Google prioritise well-linked internal structures when determining rankings, so optimising for reduced click depth can enhance overall visibility in search results.

To improve click depth on your website:

1. Simplify Navigation: Ensure that menus allow easy access to key pages.
2. Use Internal Linking: Strategically link related content within articles or product descriptions.
3. Create Sitemaps: Implement XML sitemaps so that crawlers can efficiently discover all pages.
