A crawl error is a situation where search engine bots like Googlebot, encounter difficulties when attempting to access and index web pages on a website. These errors can effect the visibility of a site in search engine results, ultimately affecting its organic traffic and overall SEO performance.
There are two primary types of crawl errors which are, soft 404s and normal 404s. A soft 404 occurs when a page has little to no content while still sending an HTTP status code indicating success (200). Whereas a 404 correctly sends an error code indicating that the requested resource is unavailable. Both types negatively impact user experience and may result in decreased rankings if not addressed promptly.
